LANDFILL REMEDIATION AND SLOPE STABILIZATION
Industry: Manufacturing
Location: Northwest
Landfill remediation, slope stabilization, and wetland restoration enhances community in the Northwest
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- 60,000 cubic yards of landfill waste excavated and transported for off-site disposal
- Remediation performed on a 140-foot-tall slope with localized gradients exceeding 1H:1V
- 30-foot-tall soil nail wall constructed to stabilize a historic landslide complex
- Accelerated design-assist-build project completed from partial design through construction within one year
- Final restoration included wetland construction, stormwater improvements, erosion control, and native planting
ENTACT completed a complex design-assist-build landfill remediation and slope stabilization project involving large-scale waste excavation, geotechnical stabilization, and full site restoration under an accelerated schedule. Delivered in close collaboration with the Client and environmental consultant, the project advanced from approximately 50 percent design completion to full construction and project closeout within a single year to meet regulatory and schedule-driven objectives.
The work required coordination across multiple disciplines, including landfill remediation, geotechnical construction, erosion control, stormwater management, and wetlands restoration, while maintaining safe operations on steep and highly constrained terrain.
Landfill waste excavation and environmental remediation
ENTACT performed excavation and off-site disposal of 60,000 cubic yards of landfill waste from a 140-foot-tall slope with localized gradients exceeding 1H:1V. Due to the challenging topography and limited site access, remediation activities required specialized excavation methods and carefully sequenced construction operations.
Soil nail wall construction and slope stabilization
To address slope instability at the landfill margin, ENTACT constructed a 30-foot-tall soil nail wall to stabilize a historic landslide complex located adjacent to the excavation area. The stabilization system was designed and refined collaboratively during construction to accommodate evolving field conditions and maintain long-term slope performance.
Site restoration and stormwater improvements
Following remedial construction activities, ENTACT completed comprehensive site restoration and long-term stabilization improvements designed to support drainage management, erosion protection, and ecological restoration.
Final restoration activities included:
- Construction of a restored wetland
- Installation of permanent stormwater and seep conveyance systems
- Energy dissipation structures and riprap buttresses
- Permanent slope stabilization measures
- Topsoil placement and erosion control systems
- Hydroseeding and native vegetation installation
- Restoration of temporary access roads
- Installation of permanent site security features
