Sediment remediation and dredging

ENTACT is executing an Interim Removal Action Measure (IRAM) at a former fiberboard facility to remediate contaminated sediments and soils within a sensitive aquatic environment. The project combines dredging, amended cap installation, water management and treatment, sediment processing, and habitat restoration to address historical contamination while supporting long-term environmental recovery.

Sediment processing and material management

Supporting infrastructure was constructed to facilitate efficient remediation activities, including temporary haul roads, remedy protection berms, access roads, sediment processing areas, material stockpile locations, and a dedicated water treatment system.

Vegetation clearing and debris removal prepared the site for excavation. Impacted soil, sediment, and wood waste are being removed, along with limited underlying material where necessary to maintain drainage and achieve remediation objectives. Excavated materials are processed, loaded, transported, and disposed of at approved off-site facilities in accordance with project requirements.

Water treatment and water management

Water management is one of the project’s most critical components. Water generated from excavation, sediment processing, and precipitation are being collected, treated, and managed throughout construction.

The integrated water treatment system supports continuous operations while maintaining compliance and protecting surrounding waterways during remediation activities.

Wetland restoration and habitat enhancement

Following remediation, ENTACT will restore more than 11 acres of disturbed areas, including 9 acres of wetland and habitat enhancement.

Restoration activities include installation of wetland plugs, native shrubs and trees, seeding, coir mats, basking logs, a sand-carbon amended cap layer, a scour protection layer, and large woody debris to establish resilient aquatic habitat, improve bank stability, and support long-term ecological function. Temporary project infrastructure will be removed following completion of field activities.

This project demonstrates ENTACT’s ability to self-perform complex sediment remediation projects that integrate dredging, sediment processing, water treatment, material management, and ecological restoration. By coordinating each phase of construction, ENTACT is helping return a historically impacted site to a safer, more sustainable condition while supporting long-term environmental stewardship.
