Contaminated sediment removed from reservoir at remote active mine site
White Lake Dock & Dredge, a division of ENTACT, performed emergency mechanical dredging of more than 120,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediments from a remote reservoir within an active mining operation. The project was initiated in response to a critical lack of reservoir capacity that threatened ongoing mining activities and water management operations.
ENTACT’s team rapidly mobilized under Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requirements and completed all dredging and material management activities in less than 100 days. Despite the challenging mountainous terrain, steep reservoir grades, and unpredictable weather, the project was executed safely and efficiently, restoring reservoir functionality and maintaining operational continuity for the Client. Our team:
- Constructed access roadways to facilitate equipment mobilization in a mountainous environment
- Mobilized dredging equipment and resources to a remote site under MSHA safety requirements
- Completed emergency dredging and sediment removal, more than 120,000 cubic yards in under 100 days
- Dredged and transported sediments with grades upwards of 17%
- Managed unpredictable weather conditions, including regular flooding of the reservoir with overnight water elevation increases of up to 30 feet
- Disposed of all sediments within the active mining operation, optimizing space and minimizing water generation
