Comprehensive water treatment system to manage 61.5+ million gallons of impacted water

ENTACT was engaged to design, construct, commission, and operate a comprehensive water treatment system to manage approximately 61.5+ million gallons of pesticide-impacted water stored in on-site lagoons at a former ethanol production facility. The multi-year remediation effort supports long-term site management under a stringent state-issued land application discharge permit. Operating 24/7, the system is housed within a temporary fabric structure and treats up to 250 gallons per minute. Once the treatment objectives are met, the system will be decommissioned and demobilized.

ENTACT’s proven performance led the Client to purchase the water treatment system for future operations to address the follow-on evolving site wastewater needs.

Scope of work included:

  • Designed, installed, and operated an advanced water treatment system to treat over 61.5+ million gallons of lagoon water
  • Performed dredging and dewatering of 25,000 cubic yards of lagoon sediment using a hydraulic cutterhead dredge and geotube dewatering
  • Stabilized and loaded out 120,000 tons of pesticide-impacted wet cake material using in-situ solidification techniques
  • Installed and operated a water transfer system between lagoons to support treatment operations
  • Managed stormwater, including pumping nearly 1 million gallons from the emergency lagoon to an alternate storage area
  • Constructed and maintained 4,000 linear feet of access roads and 2,800 linear feet of drainage swales
  • Conducted site maintenance including laydown area restoration, dust control misting, electrical upgrades, and pond embankment reinforcement
  • Removed lagoon liner and implemented lagoon closure treatability studies and landfarming trials
  • Loaded out pesticide-impacted corn seed for off-site incineration
  • Installed temporary and permanent water lines, a sump system, and a storm shelter for operational support and worker safety

ENTACT’s integrated remediation and water treatment approach has helped stabilize site conditions, reduce long-term environmental risk, and support the Client’s closure goals through innovative treatment design, precise execution, and ongoing operations management.
