First Large-Scale Floating ISS Operation of its Kind in the Country

White Lake Dock & Dredge, Inc. (WLDD), a division of ENTACT, LLC, dredged more than 75,000 cubic yards of manufactured gas plant (MGP)-impacted sediments from the Illinois River.

This project required coordination between 4 major contractors, all working simultaneously on different scopes of work. In addition to performing all dredging and capping work, WLDD provided all the marine support for the in-situ solidification and stabilization (ISS) operation – the first large-scale floating ISS operation of its kind in the country – to include ISS swell management and barge positioning.

After completing dredging and ISS activities, WLDD installed a layer of organic cap materials over areas disturbed along the shore and within the perimeter ISS area. All MGP-impacted dredge materials were solidified with Portland cement and disposed of offsite.
