Auxier & Associates: A Legacy of Scientific Excellence

Auxier & Associates was founded in 1992 by Dr. John A. Auxier, a globally respected nuclear engineer and health physicist whose career helped shape the modern fields of radiation dosimetry, health physics, and environmental safety. Established to provide radiological, health, safety, and environmental consulting services, the firm quickly earned a reputation for scientific rigor, integrity, and practical problem-solving.

In 2022, Auxier & Associates became part of ENTACT, LLC. This acquisition brought together decades of specialized radiological and health physics expertise with ENTACT’s national environmental remediation and geotechnical construction capabilities, ensuring that Dr. Auxier’s legacy continues through expanded resources, reach, and technical depth.

Dr. Auxier was a world-renowned leader in nuclear engineering and health physics for more than 50 years prior to founding Auxier & Associates. His extraordinary life included service as one of the youngest fighter pilots in World War II, followed by a pioneering scientific career that laid the foundation for modern radiation dose assessment methodologies still relied upon today.

Throughout his career, Dr. Auxier held numerous prestigious leadership roles, including President of the Health Physics Society, President of the American Academy of Health Physics, and appointed head of the Task Group on Health Physics and Dosimetry for President Jimmy Carter’s commission investigating the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. He authored more than 100 technical publications spanning dosimetry, radiobiology, and radiation protection. Among his most notable works is ICHIBAN: Toxic Agents Dosimetry for the Survivors of the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, published as part of the Energy Research and Development Agency (ERDA) Prestige Series.

At Auxier & Associates, Dr. Auxier assembled a team of highly respected scientists who shared his commitment to uncompromising quality, efficiency, and Client service. His leadership was defined not only by technical excellence, but also by compassion and service to others. One of his proudest accomplishments was founding the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge, reflecting his enduring commitment to humanitarian causes and community well-being.

Dr. Auxier passed away on August 27, 2020, leaving behind a legacy of scientific achievement, ethical leadership, and public service. Today, ENTACT is proud to carry forward that legacy, honoring Dr. Auxier’s contributions to science and society while continuing to uphold the standards of excellence, innovation, and community engagement that he instilled from the very beginning.
