BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT AREA REMEDIATION

Industry: Real Estate
Location: Northeast

ENTACT performed remediation activities at several blocks and lots at this site representing Phase I of a larger-area brownfield redevelopment project. Contaminants of concern (COCs) included polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hexavalent chromium, chromium ore process residue (COPR), extractable petroleum hydrocarbon (EPH), pesticides, various metals and lead. Remedial activities were performed at the site in preparation for future residential development.

Scope of work included design, procurement and installation of a 1,600-linear-foot, 40-foot-deep permanent vertical hydraulic control system; dewatering, water treatment and discharge to a nearby creek; excavation of overburden and impacted soil from delineated areas; direct loading or on-site management as needed, and off-site transportation and disposal of excavated impacted soil and debris; in-situ stabilization of 3,000 cubic yards of hazardous lead soils; loading and transporting recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and blending it with approved excavated overburden for use as backfill; backfilling excavated areas to cap subgrade elevations with RCA/overburden-blended fill and compacting to achieve 95% proctor density; and importing certified clean fill for installation of 10.6 acres of various soil and capillary break caps. Over 70,000 cubic yards of material were managed throughout the project.
